A shared language

Connect what employers need to explain with what educators and students need to understand.

Hands-on trade skills and workshop materials

Describe the working day

A job title rarely explains a trade. Invite employers to describe a normal day, the problems a new colleague learns to solve and the support available while they learn. Specific descriptions make the conversation easier for students and educators to use.

Explain expectations

Punctuality, safe working habits, communication and curiosity all matter, but their meaning depends on the setting. Discuss what these habits look like in practice. Separate what a learner should bring from what an employer or training provider will teach.

Keep responsibility clear

A school conversation is not an employment offer. Any placement, training programme or workplace visit needs its own arrangements and approvals. Clear responsibilities let the awareness conversation remain open while the practical details are handled by the right people.
